One of the main reasons to go for an RV adventure is to get away from everything and isolate yourself with nature. The best way to fully experience this freedom is to venture into dry camping. The biggest struggle for dry camping is getting by on a limited supply of water. Here are our favorite ways to save the water you bring with you while on an RV travel vacation.
RV Travel Tips for Dry Camping
A lot of custom RVs come with a water pump, faucets and shower heads that are not optimal. Upgrading these fixtures will go a long way in helping you save the water you bring with you, and, in turn, let you stay out longer.
If you want to stay out for a longer time, you have to be conservative with your fresh water. It will also slow down the rate at which your gray tank fills up.

You can also extend your fresh water capacity by bringing collapsible bladders and jerry jugs that you can empty into your fresh water tank when it gets low.
One of the big ways people like to save water is to use paper plates instead of washing dishes every night. If you’re like me and prefer to eat off of regular dishes, try using paper towels to wipe off excess debris before washing. This will help save a lot of water that would normally be wasted rinsing away the debris you just wiped away.
While waiting for your water to heat up to temperature you prefer, save the cold water that initially flows out into a pitcher. You can use this water later on to wash dishes, clean your custom RV or just pour back into your fresh water tank.
How Long Can You Dry Camp?
Saving water can be one of the toughest things to do when dry camping, but hopefully, these tips will help. Seasoned campers should be able to last 10-14 days without refilling water or needing to dump their tank. Most people could last a good 3 to 4 nights.
